Struck with pneumonia, little Rosalia Lombardo perished on December 6, 1920 – just one week ahead of her second birthday. And now, nicknamed “Sleeping Beauty,” she – or rather her perfectly preserved body – rests in an open casket in a famous Sicilian catacomb.
