Making a successful ad is hard. You have to attract attention, be original and not offend anyone. While the first two are more or less easy, the third condition proved to be extra hard for the companies on our list of the most shameful ads of 2016.
14. Flashy CK
Fashion ads are notoriously daring and sexual, but sometimes the public just can’t take it anymore. That’s what happened with this particular image back in May. It was promoting Calvin Klein spring campaign and starred Danish 23-year-old actress-turned-model Klara Kristin. Apparently the invitation for the world to look under her skirt (and see the latest pair of Calvin’s there, duh) was a bit too much for the world. “I guarantee this shot will be downloaded on every Pervert’s computer,” said one of the commenters on the brand’s Instagram page.
13. Interracial Scandal
This seemingly harmless picture of a good-looking interracial family which was used in the Old Navy campaign got everyone hot and bothered in May. Once the photo was tweeted by Old Navy’s account, it was immediately met with harsh criticism with one poster cyber-yelling “Stop pushing race mixing, you degenerates.” The supporters of the forward-thinking campaign fired back the feel-good hashtag #LoveWins. At the end of the day Old Navy wins, since we all know the worth of such publicity.
12. Breast-Feeding Ad
Back in January gym franchise Equinox got under the thunderstorm of criticism for this photo, which starred model Lydia Hearst, her famous breasts and two babies feeding from them. The Steven Klein-shot campaign was accused of sexualizing breast feeding.
