Beer always gets a bad rep all around the world. People blame it for causing alcoholism, making their “beer bellies” grow and generally ruining their lives. Recent studies give the “skinny drunk” a whole new meaning! Professor Tim Spector of King’s College London wrote a book called The Diet Myth and we advise every pub and bar owner to put in on their counters in case anyone decides to criticize beer in their establishment. In the book, Spector states that drinking Belgian beer in particular is great for your gut bacteria, as it aids in efficient digestion. So it basically helps your body process food better and get thinner. We’d like another glass of beer with our burger and fries, please.

9. Live Longer

Ever wondered what was the secret of health of these old folks you always see sipping beer at your local bar? Apparently, it’s the beer itself. Some researchers report that people who drink moderate amounts of beer on a regular basis are 19% less likely to die during the chosen period of testing than those who had no alcohol intake whatsoever. Maybe the reason is that staying active and social boosts your mood and can help fight depression.

8. Get Smarter

The New England Journal of Medicine reported that most studies show that moderate drinkers do better on cognitive tests than nondrinkers. “A cognitive benefit from moderate alcohol intake is plausible,” the report stated, “Given the strong link between moderate alcohol intake and the decreased risk of cardiovascular disease; cognitive impairment and cardiovascular disease share common risk factors.” We just feel smarter by reading all of it!
